Plenty of slapstick comedy and self-deprecating humour that won’t make you feel uncomfortable. It is just straightforward and unapologetic good old-fashioned entertainment so you will find some “down to earth” language and ribald anecdotes.
Nick Spalding is kind towards his characters – you feel like they are close to his heart and he won’t let anyone hurt them. you can relax and enjoy the ride in the knowledge that you are heading for a happy ending.
The topic itself isn’t the most graceful of all, and there is only so much one can do with it: exercise – diet -exercise- diet etc, but Spalding manages to keep it fresh.
There are a few didactic passages, which I skimmed read through, and a touch of banal, but overall a jolly good read!
