It was my first Lynda La Plante’s novel. I bought three of them in a deal, and now I regret it. I may still try the other two after reading some of the critical reviews here which tell me that Backlash is not LLP at her best.
My quarrel with the book is the very repetitive and anal writing. The procedural descriptions take precedence over characters and replace the actual plot. I struggled through it and must admit that I skim read about 150 pages in the middle. It didn’t feel like I missed much. Sorry!
I will try another one of her books and see if this one is just a one off disappointment.
