One of the best psychological thrillers I ever read. The build-up to the finale is exquisite: you get into the poor woman’s head, you wake up with her every morning and start joining the dots and trying to squeeze into place the missing pieces of the puzzle. Nothing fits. You feel for her. You feel this huge hole in your head.
You also feel for her husband, the patient and caring man who suffers alongside her. Watson has created a perfectly believable vacuum around them. There are no other people: just her and her husband. And nothing seems what it is.
It’s excruciating, and hugely engaging. Loved it!
